The Severn Deanery is keen to develop doctors who see themselves as global citizens. As part of this philosophy we are keen to support doctors to undertake international experience in low and medium income countries, as well and high income developed countries, and will try to support out of programme experiences and shorter more focussed opportunities to support this aim as appropriate.
Many individual schools have developed links with particular institutions overseas, and details of these, together with more up to date experiences are shown on their websites.
A conference on international experiences was held in July 2011 for individuals who had worked in developing countries. The programme and workshop outputs are shown below, together with useful resources for those considering working overseas:The Framework for NHS Involvement in International Development and the article: Postgraduate training in global health: ensuring UK doctors can contribute to health in resource-poor countries.
